Mind playing tricks #209,839

This morning I woke up smiling from an extraordinary dream.  I dreamt that I was attending a reunion with some old classmates who I hadn’t met in more than 20 years.  I was so happy to be with them again!  I reminisced with them about the good old days, I rejoiced as they shared their career successes, and I couldn’t help but get a bit misty-eyed when they proudly showed photos of their talented kids.  All in all, it was great to see my old friends.

Then I woke up … and realised that none of those people exist in real life.  In other words, they were all completely figments of my imagination.

Oh well, at least my imaginary friends are happy folk!  That’s something, isn’t it?

Now that’s funny. Maybe these were classmates in your parallel universe.

I’m already aware, through frequent and vivid recurring dreams, of living at least one parallel life. The strange thing is, it’s bizarrely similar to the life that I’m living now (high-rise apartment life in a medium-sized city in some unspecified Asian country; the dreams are usually very mundane ones about grocery shopping and chit-chat with friends … but they’re so REAL! Sometimes I wonder which is the real life, this one or that one). Now, you’d think that if I was going have a parallel life in a parallel universe, it would be something terribly exciting and thrilling, but no ….! Wherever I go, I’m destined to be a middle-aged woman living in a dingy flat and looking for specials on pet food and oranges.

According to the latest thinking by physicists or whatever, given the size of the universe, there are likely to be dozens of planets on which our doppelgangers or other selves are leading parallel lives, although in the alternate life, we may have made different choices. I find that a fascinating concept.

I’ll bet you and I and a few people we know are whooping it up somewhere in time and space.
