Shut up about the damn mosque

Religion complicates everything. I don’t like it much. I’m living in a small and peaceful city with a mosque, a synagogue, several churches (both RC and Protestant), a Chinese temple, a Jain temple, and dozens of Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines, all within easy walking distance of each other. And yet I’ve not bothered to go into any of them, aside of the Anglican church when I had to show up at certain school ceremonies for the Sonbeam who attended a mission school to learn English. I just cannot be bothered with it all, but if I had to choose, I think I’d call myself a Shinto-ist (Shinto is the native religion of Japan). Either that, or a rooster-worshipper.

I lean towards deism which isn’t exactly a religion, or at least they don’t have any churches. I just can’t buy into the Christian or any other religion’s concept of god. Their beliefs about the nature of a supreme being make no sense to me.

A few years ago, after arguing with the Sonbeam about whether Ben would approve of our new curtains, I decided that cats pretty much run the world.

(Our curtains, which weren’t cheap, are now horribly stained and shredded.)

I’ve said before, and it’s true, that our cats have torn up and broken more stuff in the house than our kids ever did. One likes to sharpen her claws on my sofa. The other completely shredded the grasscloth wallpaper in the hallway and the dining room. In the dining room, he had to jump up on the buffet to get at it, too, as there’s a wainscot with the wallpaper above it. They’ve broken vases, glasses, knocked over flower arrangements, and Red pukes everywhere.
