People who do yoga are often really skinny, with incredible stamina. I have two friends who are yoga teachers, and recently I met a woman who teaches maternity yoga; all three of them are extremely lithe, supple, and slender, even though they do no form of exercise except yoga, and follow no special diet (one of them even admits to smoking and eating junk food!). Despite being in their fifties, they have escaped the middle-aged spread thus far, much to the envy of their friends. They are also very calm and tranquil people, who take life as it comes and don’t sweat the small stuff at all.
Needless to say, they are not suffering too much from menopausal symptoms, either. It makes me wonder if yoga has some kind of extraordinary effect on the female hormone system. Or is it more likely that these happily married ladies-of-leisure, who can afford to dedicate several hours a day to standing on their heads, are far more likely to have fewer stressors in life, and better access to higher quality foods and healthcare?
Perhaps the best way to being fit, slender, and happy is to marry well!
