Stop the presses!

It has been reported in the news, in shocked tones, that a fast-food restaurant in Tokyo was robbed of $1,000 by a knife-wielding assailant.  Apparently the perpetrator was a 40-ish male in dark attire, roughly 5’6″ in height, and driving a motorbike …  in other words, a typical Japanese male.   Good luck with finding him, police!

(That stuff like this actually makes headlines here is one of the many, many things that I love about this country.)

It would barely rate a mention in the second section of our local newspaper. A former police chief used to refer to all convenience stores as a “Stop and Rob”.

In NZ, it’s petrol stations, post offices, and small regional banks. Recently a lot of armed heists are carried out to obtain drug money, which doesn’t seem to be the case in Japan (yet).
