Small is beautiful

A typical $500/month apartment in central Tokyo.  Sure it’s small, but it’s not shockingly unusual – the only thing really shocking about it is the extremely low rental fee.  Gaijins may well ask “yeah, there’s a kitchen and bathroom (of sorts), but where do you sleep?”  Silly people!  Don’t they know that Japanese people don’t sleep?  Except on crowded commuter trains, that is … usually whilst standing upright.

This is funny for a simple reason:

In Germany a very, very small living space is called “Wohnklo mit Kochnische” (live-in bathroom with kitchenette).

Now I have seen a place actually fitting that description. 🙂

That would be a “studio” apartment in the US. Very good use of space.

    Definitely a NY thing.
